WHY CANDA

The Canda Charitable Trust was established to honor the legacy of the Canda family.

About the Candas

Edward and Lucy met later in life on a blind date. The two married in October 1965 and lived a modest life with a small, close circle of friends.

They lived the entirety of their married life in the Creve Coeur area, in the house that was a wedding gift from Edward’s parents. They enjoyed spending time together and were devoted to the dogs they loved as members of their family.

Edward preceded his wife in death in September 2016. Lucy passed away in March 2022. The couple desired their legacies continue through local organizations with focuses involving animals, children, and the Catholic Church.

Edward Canda

Born April 5, 1928

A graduate of Washington University, he served in the Army and worked in his family’s real estate firm until shortly after his father’s death.

He spent the rest of his life managing investments, and did so without a computer or subscribing to any type of financial publications.

Lucy P. Canda

Born August 9, 1926

A graduate of Webster College, she worked as a social worker, CSW for the Missouri Department of Social Services, Division of Aging for 37 years before retiring in 1988.

As a young woman, she enjoyed traveling alone to New York, California, Chicago, and New Orleans. She was an independent woman supporting herself at a time when that was not the norm.

Lucy’s church and faith were always very important to her and she enjoyed talking about her beliefs and knitting prayer shawls. She also enjoyed watching reruns of The Andy Griffith Show and Everybody Loves Raymond. She was resilient, practical, and a good friend with a keen sense of humor.
